If you are a tester, it is very likely that you have uttered things like „What does that mean?“ or „What does this really mean?“
And it is just as likely that you were part in discussions where someone at some point cut off discussions with „oh, that’s just semantics.“
In this talk I will give a short overview what meaning means from a linguistic point of view. This deals with words, words in context, sentences and some basic concepts about linguistics. In addition I will try to hint at situations where that knowledge might be helpful for you as a tester since we need to know what things mean, don’t we?
